Both Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Ring Video Doorbell 4 send notifications to your phone, tablet, and PC when anyone presses your doorbell or triggers the built-in motion sensors. When you answer the notification, you can see, hear, and speak to visitors from anywhere. Both battery-powered doorbells also have Advanced Motion Detection with Customizable Motion Zones, Quick Replies that help you answer the door when you’re busy, and customizable privacy settings.
The main difference is that Ring Video Doorbell 4 includes our Pre-Roll feature which allows you to see up to 4 additional seconds of color video before the motion event was even triggered – a first-to-market feature for battery-powered doorbells and unique exclusively to Ring. Ring Video Doorbell 4 also has improved performance from Ring Video Doorbell 3, including improved motion detection and night vision.
The main difference is the improvement in the Pre-Roll feature from Video Doorbell 3 Plus to Video Doorbell 4. The Pre-Roll video previews on Video Doorbell 4 are in color (vs black & white for Video Doorbell 3 Plus), higher quality video, and have improved functionality at nighttime. Ring Video Doorbell 4 also has improved battery life and performance from Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. Battery life will vary based on device settings, use, and environmental factors.
If you have a subscription to Ring Protect, videos captured by your doorbell or camera will be saved to your Ring account for up to 30 or 60 days depending on your location and photos captured will be saved to your Ring account for up to 7 days, so you can review them at any time.
A free 30-day Ring Protect Plus Trial is included with any Ring doorbell or camera purchase unless you are already subscribed to a Plus Plan at the same location of the new device. No. You can still use your doorbell or camera to watch over your home and answer the door from anywhere, even without a subscription to Ring Protect. Without Ring Protect, you’ll still receive real-time notifications when anyone comes to your door, and you can answer the notification to see, hear and speak to visitors in real time right from your mobile device.
However, without a subscription to Ring Protect, you won’t be able to review any videos that you missed in real time, and you won’t be able to save your videos or share them with anyone.
